AKSHAYA TRITIYA

Today 13th May 2013,Monday is“AKSHAYA TRITIYA”. I thought this might information might help to those who in india do not know the importance of Akshaya Tritiya. Just like the Mother’s Day, this too only recently have fallen into the media hands which had made its significance but unfortunately its only few who understand what this day means.

Akshaya Tritiya falls in the Holy month of “Vaishakha”. Significance of Akshaya Tritiya is that every second of the day is considered auspicious hence there is no need to look for a ‘Muhurat’ on this day as the entire day is devoid of malefic influences. As per Indian Astrology, it is believed that on this day the sun and the moon are most radiant and are best placed.

There are numerous legends associated with Akshaya Tritiya.According to the Puranas, Thretha Yuga began on Askhaya Tritiya day. On this day, Veda Vyasa began the composition of the“Mahabharata”

Another myth is that Kuchela visited Lord Krishna in Dwarka with a handful of beaten rice (aval) on this day. Usally Parashuram Jayanti (6th incarnation of Bhagavan Vishnu)is also observed on Akshaya Tritiya day , this year based on the thidhi it was celebrated on 12th .Also in the Mahabharata, the Pandavas received the Akshaya Pathram (bowl) from Lord Krishna on this day. The Akshaya Pathram provided unlimited food for the Pandavas during their exile.

Many devout Hindus choose the day to conduct auspicious functions .The word Akshaya means ‘one which never diminishes’. Hence the benefits of doing Jap, Yagya, Pitra-tarpan, Dan-Punya on this day never diminish and remain with the Person for ever. The day is ideal for marriages, for beginning new ventures, for investing and also for purchasing valuables like gold and diamond.

Observe Akshay Tritiya with special pujas: The main puja and prayers on the day is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore we can do a simple Vishnu pooja in the morning with Thulsi leaves and flowers. Some people also perform an elaborate Lakshmi puja or Lakshmi kubera homa.”Annadhanam” – offering food to the poor is considered to be the greatest thing one can do on this day. Hindus believe there is no Dhaanam greater than Annadhanam.

Why People Invest in Gold

There is a popular belief that whatever one invests in on this day will continue to grow and bring prosperity. Therefore people invest in gold on the day.People also make donations and give alms on the day. Umbrellas, sandals etc are also donated in some regions.
